ARK SOULS AND BLOODBORNE CREATOR SAYS ELDEN RING IS A VAST OPEN-WORLD SOULS-LIKE GAME – E3 2019

다크 소울과 블러드본의 제작자가 말하길, 엘든 링은 광활한 오픈 월드 소울라이크 게임이다 - E3 2019

According to director Hidetaka Miyazaki, his newest project Elden Ring  is an open-world style game with gameplay mechanics similar to the Dark Souls series.

미야자키 히데타카 디렉터에 따르면, 그의 신작 프로젝트인 엘든 링은 다크 소울 시리즈와 유사한 게임플레이 메카닉을 가진 오픈 월드 스타일 게임이라 한다.

“Elden Ring is a third-person action RPG with a fantasy setting.

Gameplay-wise, it’s heavily based on Dark Souls.”

"엘든 링은 판타지를 배경으로 한 3인칭 액션 RPG입니다.

게임플레이 측면에서 볼 때, 다크 소울에 크게 기반을 두고 있죠."

Miyazaki explained to IGN in an exclusive interview, referring to the series he is probably best known for.

미야자키는 IGN과의 독점 인터뷰를 통해, 그에게 가장 잘 알려진 시리즈를 언급하며 설명했다.

“However, that doesn’t mean that it plays out in the same way.

With a more open and vast environment, the way combat plays out becomes fundamentally different.”

"하지만, 그렇다고 같은 식으로 플레이해야 한다는 건 아니에요.

보다 개방적이고 광활한 환경에서 전투 방식은 근본적으로 달라지게 되거든요."

Miyazaki explains that Elden Ring’s world naturally creates drastically different situations in battle, and creates new opportunities for exploration as well as storytelling.

미야자키가 엘든 링의 세계는 전투에 따라 자연스럽게 다른 상황이 만들어지고 스토리텔링 뿐 아니라 탐험을 위한 새로운 기회가 만들어진다고 설명했다.

Other works by Miyazaki including Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice had interconnected maps in a Metroidvania style.

While these can be regarded as open world games too, Miyazaki says that Elden Ring’s environments are much more vast and open.

미야자키의 다른 작품인 다크 소울, 블러드본, 세키로: SHADOWS DIE TWICE는 메트로바니아 스타일로 맵을 상호 연결했다.

이 게임들도 오픈 월드 게임에 간주될 수 있지만, 미야자키 디렉터는 엘든 링의 환경은 훨씬 더 광활하고 개방적이라 말한다.

With a customizable character, the player will be able to traverse through the world on a horse and can find enemies while riding it.

플레이어는  커스터마이징한 캐릭터와 함께  말을 타면서 세계를 탐험하고 적들을 찾을 수도 있다.

While Miyazaki acknowledges that he studied many open world games, he did not mention any particular titles.

Rather than being too heavily inspired by a certain title, he attempted to create an open-world game only FromSoftware can make.

That means that you are still fighting terrifying bosses, and will likely die a lot.

미야자키는 오픈 월드 게임을 많이 공부했다는 걸 인정하면서도, 어떠한 특정 타이틀도 언급하지 않았다.

특정 타이틀에서 과한 영감을 받는 대신에, 그는 오직 프롬 소프트웨어만이 만들 수 있는 오픈 월드 게임을 만들길 시도했다.

즉 당신은 여전히 무시무시한 보스들과 싸우며, 많이 죽을 수 있다는 걸 뜻한다.

According to Miyazaki, there will be no towns or cityscapes with NPCs to interact with in Elden Ring, but you can expect village ruins in a similar vein to his other titles.

미야자키에 의하면, 엘든 링에서는 NPC와 교감할 만한 마을이나 도시의 경관은 없을테지만, 그의  다른 작품과 비슷한 맥락의 마을 유적은 기대할 수 있다고 했다.

“Creating a new type of game is a big challenge for us.

If we would add towns on top of that, it would become a bit too much, so we decided to create an open world style game focused on what we are best at.”

"새로운 형태의 게임을 만드는 건 저희에게 있어 큰 도전입니다.

거기에  마을을 추가하면 너무 지나칠 수 있어서, 저희가 잘하는 걸 중점으로 오픈 월드 스타일 게임을 만들기로 정했습니다.

An open world Soul-like game by FromSoftware sure has us excited.
